Data input

This is the Achilles heel of every software using it as a base for all functions.

So it goes without saying that MVM relies heavily on input of Data in a short time and in a very precise way.

We realized this will be a major requirement and as such searched the market for an outsourcing company able to deal professionally with all the Data input for us.

We found a few and after checking and eliminating chose a company based in India with an office in Basingstoke UK.

Not too far, geographically, as we need to go through the data on a regular base in order to catalogue and explain as they are not marine proficient.

There are so many issues to deal with when looking at Data entering. What format will the data be produced and delivered. If PDF files, then usually manuals are single files with multiple pages. That doesn’t work and needs to be broken (split) to single pages. What size images and in what format. Should we restrict file size to allow faster uploads and downloads .This also has a bearing on Database storage size and of course speed of system in general.

How do you educate your clients to forward images in the right size and resolution. We all have today 12 Meg. Capability Cameras which are great for enlargements, but not for Data…. 1.4MB picture…. We can actually use same picture/image in 70KB format for MVM’s needs.

We discussed this issue in previous topic on the Blog. Found a great small program FREEBEE just download and use in 4 simple steps. Just follow this link Bluefive
So it doesn’t matter if our client has previous photos or can not learn how to reduce size of image, we just take all images he supplies and resize them before forwarding to Data input.

Received drawings in DWG format. Need to compile and convert to PDF. That to was sorted by Outsource with an in house software.

So, Knowing what we want from a future MVMSYSTEM user and laying out the data correlation instructions will help to speed up this process.
